KHNP, Doosan, AWS and X‑energy Sign SMR MOUs for U.S. Data Centers and Texas AI Campus

The nonbinding agreements outline more than 5 gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2039 linked to a proposed 11‑gigawatt site in Texas.

Overview

  • Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Doosan Enerbility signed an MOU with Amazon Web Services and X‑energy to commercialize the Xe‑100 small modular reactor for U.S. data centers at a KoreaU.S. business roundtable following the Lee–Trump summit.
  • The plan targets deployment of more than 60 Xe‑100 units delivering over 5 gigawatts by 2039 with collaboration across design, construction, supply chains, operations and market development.
  • KHNP also signed a separate MOU with Fermi America and Samsung C&T to join a Texas advanced energy and AI campus envisioned at roughly 11 gigawatts using four large nuclear units, SMRs, gas, solar and battery storage.
  • To secure nuclear fuel, KHNP agreed with Centrus Energy on joint investment in U.S. uranium enrichment capacity and on expanded purchases of enriched uranium.
  • Industry officials said the initiatives could draw up to $50 billion in combined investment, including about $700 million from AWS, while the deals remain at the planning stage pending licensing, financing and construction approvals.
