Khelo India Water Sports Debuts on Dal Lake as J&K Teen Wins Festival’s First Gold

  • Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya declared the three-day festival open via video, with MoS Raksha Khadse, LG Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah attending the launch.
  • More than 400 athletes from across India are competing in rowing, canoeing and kayaking, with 24 gold medals at stake through Saturday.
  • Competition director Bilquis Mir says the meet is run to international specifications and consolidates all Olympic kayaking, canoeing and rowing events.
  • Organisers report strong female participation and broad state representation, with 409 athletes including 202 women and the largest contingents from Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Odisha and Kerala.
