KGMU Staff Threaten Jan. 13 OPD Shutdown Over Delayed FIR After VC Office Ruckus

Police have not lodged a case over the January 9 incident, prompting a 24-hour ultimatum from campus unions.

Overview

  • A joint committee of teachers, resident doctors, nurses and staff said all OPDs will stop from January 13 unless police register an FIR within 24 hours, with emergency services to continue.
  • The university estimates an OPD closure would disrupt care for roughly 8,000 to 10,000 patients each day.
  • The demand follows a January 9 episode in which a group including UP Women’s Commission vice-chairperson Aparna Yadav allegedly tried to force entry into the vice-chancellor’s office, which KGMU reported as vandalism supported by CCTV footage.
  • Chowk police said the investigation is ongoing and had not registered an FIR more than 72 hours after the complaint, and additional police have been deployed on campus.
  • In a related case, junior resident Dr Rameezuddin was arrested and dismissed over allegations of sexual harassment and forced conversion, the VC briefed the Governor and Chief Minister, and the university suspended its internal probe as the STF assumed the conversion inquiry.
