Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has endorsed Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election, despite previously suggesting Trump may not be the GOP's best nominee.
McCarthy has also expressed willingness to serve in a potential Trump administration, stating he would take a role 'in the right position' if he was 'the best person for the job'.
McCarthy's endorsement and willingness to serve under Trump has been criticized by former Rep. Liz Cheney, who called McCarthy 'sad' and 'pathetic'.
Cheney has been critical of McCarthy's continued support for Trump, stating that it 'doesn’t really matter what Donald Trump has done to the country, what Donald Trump has done to the Congress, Donald Trump has done to Kevin McCarthy…'.
McCarthy, who is retiring from Congress at the end of December, was ousted from the speakership in October by eight Republicans, several of whom are among Trump's most loyal GOP allies in the House.
