Overview
- Two tourists from a seven-member Kerala group entered the high-altitude Sela Lake on Friday afternoon after a companion fell through the ice.
- Dinu, 26, and Mahadev, 24, were pulled under when the ice cracked during their rescue attempt, while the man they tried to save managed to get out.
- Dinu’s body was recovered and taken to the Jang Community Health Centre, where a post-mortem is scheduled for Saturday.
- Tawang police launched a joint operation with Sashastra Seema Bal and the State Disaster Response Force; the search for Mahadev was suspended due to poor visibility and will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday.
- Authorities say signboards at Sela and a December 17 advisory warned that frozen lake ice may be unstable and prohibited visitors from stepping onto it.
