Overview

  • Kunnamkulam police registered a case under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against a teacher identified as Khadija of Sirajul Uloom English High School in Thrissur.
  • Khadija’s WhatsApp audio urged Muslim parents to keep children out of Onam activities, calling the festival polytheistic and warning participation could be ‘shirk’.
  • The school said the remarks were the teachers’ personal opinions, suspended both educators pending an inquiry, and confirmed Onam celebrations will go ahead.
  • Reports say the FIR names only Khadija, even as a second teacher who sent a similar message has also been suspended.
  • DYFI and CPI(M) members marched to the school on August 27, as the police investigation and the school’s internal probe continue.
