Kerala Signals Conditional Resumption at Paliyekkara as Himachal Suspends Sanwara Toll Till Oct. 30

Courts are tying user fees to verified road safety and congestion relief.

Overview

  • Kerala High Court said it will consider allowing toll collection at Paliyekkara from Monday with conditions after an interim committee reported satisfaction with NHAI’s repair work.
  • The bench kept the formal suspension in place until further verification of service roads and diversions, with police earlier flagging bottlenecks and accidents near work sites.
  • Toll collection at Paliyekkara has been halted since August 6 after a 12-hour blockade, a suspension affirmed by the Supreme Court on August 18.
  • NHAI, citing a month of lost revenue and about 300 affected employees, sought permission to resume collections as the court continues to monitor compliance through the District Collector and the interim panel.
  • In a separate order, the Himachal Pradesh High Court stopped toll collection at Sanwara on NH-5 from September 20 to October 30 over poor road conditions and directed the Solan deputy commissioner to assist NHAI, with the next hearing on October 30.
