Kerala Shopkeeper Dies After Neighbor Sets Her on Fire in Revenge Attack

C Ramitha, a 32-year-old grocery shop owner in Kasaragod district, succumbed to burn injuries after being set on fire by an intoxicated neighbor following a dispute.

• The incident occurred on April 8 in Bedaduka village, where C Ramitha and the accused, Ramamritham, operated adjacent shops in the same building.
• Ramitha had previously complained to the building owner about Ramamritham's disruptive behavior when intoxicated, leading to his eviction notice.
• In retaliation, Ramamritham poured thinner on Ramitha inside her shop and set her on fire; she suffered over 50% burns.
• Neighbors rescued Ramitha and rushed her to hospitals in Kanhangad and later Mangaluru, where she succumbed to her injuries on April 15.
• The accused, apprehended by locals while attempting to flee, remains in custody, with charges likely to be upgraded following Ramitha's death.
