Kerala Orders SCERT to Debar Textbook Team Over Class 4 Handbook Errors

SCERT says the mistakes were inadvertent, with a corrected handbook issued alongside an internal inquiry.

Overview

  • General Education Minister V. Sivankutty directed SCERT to debar the Class 4 textbook development team from further academic activities and to correct content before printing.
  • SCERT recalled the Environmental Studies teachers’ handbook after teachers flagged a line claiming Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose “fled to Germany fearing the British,” then issued a corrected edition.
  • An internal inquiry is underway into how the mistake passed review, with the council pledging tighter quality checks on future materials.
  • ABVP alleged deliberate distortion and cited a map that omitted the names of Assam and Jharkhand, filing complaints with the state minister, NCERT and the Union education minister, and warning of protests.
  • SCERT Director Jayaprakash R. K. said the national map was intact with all states shown and that only two state names were missing, with corrections posted online.
