Kerala Nursing College Seniors Arrested for Months of Brutal Ragging

Five third-year students from Kottayam Government Nursing College allegedly subjected first-year students to extreme physical and mental abuse over three months.

  • The ragging, which began in November 2024, involved physical torture, including victims being tied up, stabbed with compasses, and having dumbbells hung from their private parts.
  • Seniors reportedly forced victims to apply lotion to their wounds, which intensified the pain, and filmed the abuse to threaten them into silence.
  • Victims also alleged extortion, with seniors demanding money to purchase alcohol and assaulting those who refused to comply.
  • The abuse came to light after one victim confided in his father, leading to a police complaint and the arrest of five senior students under the Anti-Ragging Act.
  • The college administration has suspended the accused students and initiated an internal investigation, while police continue to probe potential lapses by college authorities.
