Kerala Medical College Faculty Announce Indefinite Strike From Jan. 13

Doctors cite unfulfilled assurances on pay anomalies, DA arrears, transfers, staffing, and facilities as the trigger.

Overview

  • The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers Association will boycott all teaching activities starting January 13.
  • From the following week, doctors will suspend non-emergency services while keeping casualty, labour rooms, ICUs, emergency surgeries and postmortems running.
  • A protest dharna is scheduled outside the Kerala Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram on January 19.
  • Demands include rectifying pay-revision anomalies, releasing salary and DA arrears pending since 2016, creating adequate faculty posts, limiting temporary and mass transfers, and improving facilities.
  • Leaders say assurances given after a November 10 meeting with Health Minister Veena George were not implemented, and that work-to-rule and non-cooperation will continue alongside the strike.
