Kerala Man Confesses to Killing 5, Cites Financial Struggles and Emotional Motives

Afan, a 23-year-old from Venjaramoodu, Kerala, confessed to killing five people, including his grandmother, uncle, aunt, younger brother, and girlfriend, on February 24, 2025.
Police revealed that Afan was struggling with a financial debt of ₹65 lakh owed to 14 creditors, which he cited as a primary motive for the killings.
Afan initially planned a group suicide with his mother and brother, but when his mother refused, he decided to kill his family and himself instead.
He killed his girlfriend, Farsana, claiming he believed she would not be able to live without him after his planned suicide.
After the murders, Afan surrendered at the Venjaramoodu police station, later attempting suicide by consuming poison; his mental state is under investigation.
