Kerala Luxury Bus Operators to Halt Tamil Nadu, Karnataka Tourist Routes From Monday Evening

The association says state fines, taxes, seizures targeting All India Tourist Permit vehicles forced the move.

Overview

  • The Luxury Bus Owners' Association announced a stop to all interstate tourist services from Kerala to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka from 6 p.m. on Monday, November 10.
  • Office-bearers A. J. Rijas and Maneesh Sasidharan said Kerala-registered buses with valid All India Tourist Permits are being stopped, fined, and detained in both states.
  • The group alleged Tamil Nadu has arbitrarily collected tax from Kerala vehicles for over a year, creating repeated financial strain for operators.
  • They argue AITP rules exempt these vehicles from additional state taxes once the national permit fee is paid, and many operators now fear losses and vehicle seizure.
  • The association has asked Kerala Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar, the Transport Commissioner, and the Union road transport ministry to intervene so services can resume.
