Kerala Local Body Polls Set for December 9 and 11, Counting on December 13

The announcement activates the model code of conduct, with nominations running through November 24.

Overview

  • Voting will be held on December 9 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha and Ernakulam, and on December 11 in Thrissur, Malappuram, Wayanad, Palakkad, Kannur, Kasaragod and Kozhikode.
  • Nominations close on November 21, scrutiny is on November 22, and withdrawals are allowed until November 24.
  • Elections will cover 1,199 local bodies and 23,576 wards after delimitation, excluding 36 wards in Mattannur, with 33,746 polling stations statewide.
  • Kerala’s final roll lists a little over 2.84 crore voters, with a supplementary electoral roll scheduled for publication on November 14.
  • Polling will run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a pre-poll mock test, as parties roll out candidate lists and the ECI’s Special Intensive Revision proceeds despite objections from the state and major parties.
