Overview

• Jayathy, 63, a kidney patient admitted on October 1 for dialysis, was found dead in Room 218 of a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
• Bhasuran, 73, is alleged to have strangled his wife with a cable used to charge an adjustable hospital bed between about 1:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.
• Hospital staff discovered the death around 4:30 a.m., after which the husband jumped from the fifth floor and later died during treatment in the ICU.
• Police registered a murder case for the wife’s death and an unnatural-death case for the husband, and they are reviewing CCTV footage and taking statements.
• Family members told investigators the couple from Karakulam struggled with mounting medical bills, and the bodies will be released to relatives after postmortems.
