- V.S. Achuthanandan died at age 101 on July 21 in Thiruvananthapuram and received a state funeral on July 23 at Valiyachudukadu in Alappuzha.

- Achuthanandan was one of the last surviving flagbearers of the 1946 Punnapra-Vayalar uprising and served as Leader of the Opposition, Chief Minister (2006–11) and chair of the Administrative Reforms Commission (2016–21).
