Kerala CPI MLA Vazhoor Soman Cremated After Sudden Collapse at Revenue Meet

Doctors said the 72-year-old trade-union veteran died of cardiac arrest after collapsing at a revenue session in Thiruvananthapuram.

  • Soman’s cremation was held Friday evening at Pambanar near Vandiperiyar after the body was kept for public homage in Vandiperiyar earlier in the day.
  • He collapsed at the Institute of Land and Disaster Management during a revenue assembly session and was declared dead at Sree Ramakrishna Mission Hospital.
  • Revenue Minister K. Rajan said Soman collapsed as they were leaving after lunch and that he rushed him to the hospital in his car.
  • Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and several ministers and legislators visited the hospital and later paid respects, with the body also kept at CPI offices for homage.
  • A veteran organiser in Idukki’s plantation sector, Soman was AITUC Kerala vice-president and won Peerumade in 2021 by 1,835 votes.
