Kerala Court Extends Judicial Custody of Expelled MLA Rahul Mamkootathil as Bail Decision Nears

The legislator is now jailed in a third rape case filed by a Kottayam native who gave a statement from Canada.

After a three-day Special Investigation Team custody ended, Magistrate Anjali Devi remanded him to the Mavelikkara sub-jail when investigators did not seek an extension.
The Thiruvalla Judicial First Class Magistrate heard his bail plea in-camera and reserved the order, which is expected to be pronounced on Saturday.
The latest case, registered on January 8 under IPC sections 376 and 506(1), follows allegations that he raped and intimidated the complainant.
Courts previously granted him anticipatory relief from arrest in two other cases that include allegations of rape, forced abortion, physical assault and criminal intimidation.
Mamkootathil denies the accusations, an aide has shared unverified WhatsApp screenshots, and Yuva Morcha and DYFI protesters have called for his resignation.
