- Kerala announced the move on Tuesday by forming a four‑member committee charged with preparing a draft Kerala AYUSH University Bill and delivering it within two months.
- The panel is chaired by the Principal Secretary of the AYUSH department and includes the State Mission Director of the National AYUSH Mission, the Director of Ayurveda Medical Education, and the principal of the Government Homoeopathic Medical College.
- The proposed university is to bring all AYUSH colleges currently affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences under one institution and is slated to be headquartered at the School of Fundamental Research in Ayurveda, Tripunithura.
- The committee has been asked to map out the university’s academic and administrative structure, governance model, research priorities and the current functioning of AYUSH institutions before finalising the draft law.
- Officials say the change is intended to boost teaching, clinical studies and drug development in Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha and Unani, and the next steps will include legislative consideration by the state and detailed implementation planning.
