Overview

• India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad on June 27 forecasting isolated extremely heavy rainfall.
• Schools in eight districts, including Ernakulam, Kottayam, Thrissur and rural Kozhikode, were closed with non-residential institutions and exam centres allowed to remain open in some areas.
• Two shutters at Kakkayam dam and one spillway shutter at Banasura Sagar dam were opened after water levels rose beyond safety thresholds.
