Kerala Clears Phase I Alignment for Thiruvananthapuram Metro

Kochi Metro Rail Ltd will now draft the detailed project report under the 2017 Metro Rail Policy.

Overview

  • The state approved a 31-kilometre Phase I corridor from Pappanamcode to Eenchakkal with 27 stations.
  • The route links Technopark’s three phases, the international airport, Thampanoor’s bus and rail hubs, the Secretariat, and the Medical College.
  • KMRL is designated to implement the project and has been directed to submit a DPR in line with central government guidelines.
  • A secretary-level panel endorsed the alignment after a November 4 review for compliance with MoHUA directives and the Comprehensive Mobility Plan.
  • KMRL’s mobility study favoured a conventional metro over mono or light systems, and preparatory works such as the Sreekaryam flyover are advancing.
