Overview

  • The UGC has released draft Learning Outcomes-based Curriculum Frameworks for nine undergraduate subjects and invited feedback until September 20.
  • Kerala’s Higher Education Minister R. Bindu objected to the drafts, alleging ideological bias in recommendations that cite the Upanishads, epics, and concepts such as Ram Rajya for study.
  • The state has tasked the Kerala State Higher Education Council to constitute an expert committee to study the model syllabi and submit recommendations.
  • The drafts integrate Indian knowledge systems, proposing topics like Kala Ganpana, Bharatiya Bijganit, and texts such as Surya Siddhanta and Aryabhatiyam within subject curricula.
  • The Students’ Federation of India announced campus actions, including symbolic burnings of draft copies on August 25–26 and marches to UGC offices on August 27.
