Overview

• The Cabinet on August 6 approved a draft ordinance to amend Sections 11(3), (4) and (6) of the Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology Act, 2021
• Proposed changes will bring the search-cum-selection committee into line with UGC Regulations 2018 and court directives
• The government will send the ordinance to the Governor for promulgation before moving to appoint a regular vice-chancellor
• Revisions may alter the panel’s composition by replacing the Chief Secretary’s role with another nominee to avoid future legal challenges
• Existing provisions cap VC candidates at 61 years of age, a stipulation that will be reviewed under the amended law
