Overview
- The state legislature passed bills to raise total monthly pay for MLAs to about Rs 98,000 and ministers' salaries to about Rs 1.33 lakh while increasing pensions for former members.
- The move follows Cabinet approval of a wider package that includes government jobs for the daughter of a murder victim and an Asian Games medallist, plus financial help for the victim’s sister.
- The Cabinet also raised housing assistance for Scheduled Caste families and fisherfolk and for Scheduled Tribe families, and approved additions to the Kerala OBC list and reporting of Sub‑Inspector vacancies to the Public Service Commission.
- To increase women’s representation, the government revised the police constable recruitment ratio from 9:1 to 7:3 and cleared administrative steps to fill vacancies as regular posts.
- The pay revision is the first since 2018, will add recurring expenditure on allowances, and has drawn political pushback with at least one BJP MLA refusing the hike and pledging to redirect his income to the poor.
