Overview
- Union minister Suresh Gopi urged that the AIIMS for Kerala be set up in Alappuzha, naming Thrissur as a fallback, and said he would raise the matter with the Prime Minister and the Union Health Minister.
- Senior Kerala BJP leaders M. T. Ramesh, V. Muraleedharan and P. K. Krishnadas called Gopi’s stance a personal view and reiterated that the Union government will decide the site.
- CPI(M)-led LDF leaders warned that visible infighting over the location could hurt Kerala’s chances, and a state minister objected to Gopi’s portrayal of Alappuzha as lagging in development.
- Kozhikode MP M. K. Raghavan said Kinaloor is the best option, citing 151.58 acres already acquired, ongoing acquisition for about 100 more acres, and a previous central team visit that favored Kozhikode.
- Kerala has long proposed Kinaloor in Kozhikode for AIIMS, with reports of 150–200 acres identified, but the Union government has not made a siting decision.
