  • Kenyan middle distance runner Faith Kipyegon set a new world record in the women's 1500 meters with a time of 3:49.11 at the Florence Diamond League meeting.
  • Kipyegon narrowly missed breaking the world record last year and now holds two Olympic gold medals, two world titles, and three Diamond League titles in the 1500m.
  • American sprinter Fred Kerley won the men's 100 meters in 9.94 seconds while Ivorian sprinter Marie-Josee Ta Lou took the women's 100 meters in 10.97 seconds.
  • Other event winners included Erriyon Knighton, Femke Bol, Grant Holloway, Mohamed Katir, Leonardo Fabbri, Andy Diaz, and Larissa Iapichino.
  • Kipyegon said breaking the world record was the only thing missing from her career and will motivate her going forward.
