Kenya Flood Crisis Worsens: 76 Dead, 40,000 Displaced

El Niño-enhanced rains continue to devastate, with warnings of more to come into the new year.

76 people have died and 40,000 have been displaced due to the heavy rains and flash floods that have been affecting Kenya since October.
38 of Kenya's 47 counties have been affected by the floods and mudslides, which have been exacerbated by the El Niño phenomenon.
The worst affected areas are the coastal cities of Mombasa and Malindi, and the northern Kenya region bordering Somalia, which has also been severely hit by flooding.
Many roads and bridges have been washed away or partially destroyed, making it difficult to reach those stranded by the floodwaters.
Kenya’s meteorological department has warned that the heavy rains will continue into the new year.
