Overview
- An email sent on 26 August displayed recipients’ email addresses to all addressees, affecting 194 people and law firms registered for Redress Scheme updates, and recall attempts were only partly successful.
- Kennedys accepted full responsibility, apologised unreservedly, said no other personal details were shared, and contacted everyone who received the message.
- The incident has been reported to the Information Commissioner's Office, the Charity Commission and the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and the ICO says it is assessing the information and making enquiries.
- The Church of England says it is not the scheme’s data controller but is profoundly concerned and is in discussions with Kennedys to prevent a repeat.
- Survivors and advocates report distress and eroded trust, with calls for compensation and for Bishop Philip Mounstephen to step down from roles linked to the scheme.
