Kenia López Rabadán Sworn In to Lead Mexico's Chamber of Deputies

Her selection followed parity rules that assigned the role to a PAN legislator.

Overview

  • After a private Morena conclave and a Jucopo agreement, the Pleno ratified the new Mesa Directiva by a 435–4 vote, with four Morena deputies dissenting.
  • Vice presidencies went to Sergio Gutiérrez Luna (Morena), Paulina Rubio Fernández (PAN) and Raúl Bolaños Cacho Cué (PVEM), and six secretaries from multiple parties were installed.
  • In her first address, López Rabadán promised plural debate and said she would not silence any legislator, pledging to uphold the law and institutional conduct.
  • Ricardo Monreal told PAN leaders the post corresponded to their party and, to meet gender parity, had to be held by a woman, with López Rabadán chosen after a phone-free closed-door session.
  • The outcome closes a brief impasse and results in both congressional chambers being led by women as the LXVI Legislatura begins its second year.
