Overview
- Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan issued a circular dated May 29 requiring every KV to maintain at least one dedicated Sanskrit section in Class 6 and Class 9 for the 2026-27 year.
- The third-language (R3) must be either Sanskrit or a scheduled regional/state language that is different from R1 (Hindi) and R2 (English), and schools must collect student and parent preferences.
- Principals must upload R3 choices to the Samagam portal so the KVS can recalculate staff strength and adjust timetables to reflect the new language periods.
- KVS allows merged groups where needed, sets a practical minimum batch size of 15 for forming language groups, and offers section-distribution examples to guide principals.
- KVS acknowledged teacher and textbook gaps and advised contractual hires, phased implementation, and use of SCERT materials where NCERT texts are not yet available while aligning the change with CBSE's NEP/NCF language rules.
