Overview

  • Under a Texas assurance of voluntary compliance, Kellogg will eliminate all FD&C dyes from its cereal portfolio by the end of 2027.
  • The state-backed agreement requires cereals served in U.S. schools to be reformulated without synthetic color additives by the 2026–27 academic year.
  • Kellogg is barred from introducing any new cereal products with FD&C dyes starting January 2026 under the pledge.
  • The company reports that about 85 percent of its cereal sales are already free of FD&C dyes, noting it has not used Red No. 3 in years.
  • Other major manufacturers, including General Mills, Kraft Heinz and Nestlé, have announced similar phase-out deadlines as part of a federal voluntary roadmap to remove synthetic color additives.
