Kejriwal, Mann Rally Gujarat Farmers at Sudamda Mahapanchayat, Target BJP Over Arrests

AAP turned the event into a push for MSP and Karda reforms following the Botad clashes, spotlighting jailed farmers and party workers.

Overview

  • Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann addressed a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Sudamda, met families of arrested farmers, and vowed to work for the release of those in jail.
  • Kejriwal accused the Gujarat government of atrocities including lathi-charge, teargas and severe charges such as attempt to murder after the October 12 Botad confrontation.
  • He alleged Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi ordered the crackdown and was later "rewarded" with promotion, a claim to which Sanghavi and the BJP did not immediately respond.
  • An FIR dated October 13 named 68 people in the Botad case, with AAP leaders Pravin Ram, Raju Karpada and Piyush Parmar still in judicial custody as of October 30, according to AAP’s legal cell.
  • AAP demanded abolition of the Karda system, a legal guarantee of MSP and compensation of Rs 50,000 per hectare for rain-hit farmers, as Kejriwal escalated rhetoric that included comparisons to British-era repression and criticism of the BJP’s stance toward directives from U.S. President Donald Trump.
