Keiji Inafune’s Studio Comcept Officially Dissolves After Shareholders’ Vote

The closure clarifies that Level-5 never owned Comcept.

Overview

  • Japan’s government gazette Kanpo published the notice today, confirming a January 13, 2026 shareholders’ resolution to dissolve the company.
  • Comcept was founded in December 2010 by Mega Man veteran Keiji Inafune after his departure from Capcom.
  • Confusion over ownership stemmed from LEVEL5 comcept, a 2017 Level-5 subsidiary that was a separate entity from Comcept.
  • After Inafune left Level-5 in mid-2024, LEVEL5 comcept was dissolved and its work moved to the newer Level-5 Osaka office, which has handled Fantasy Life i and Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road.
  • The studio’s credits include the Kickstarter-backed Mighty No. 9 and contributions to Soul Sacrifice and ReCore.
