Overview
- Fire crews were dispatched just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 to an apartment near 71st Street and Armstrong Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.
- Firefighters found an unresponsive 15-year-old in a second-floor unit, removed him, and began advanced life support before he was pronounced dead at a hospital about an hour to 90 minutes later.
- The fire was brought under control in roughly an hour, and searches of neighboring apartments found no additional victims.
- Two civilians were injured, including a resident who suffered lacerations while breaking a window to help a trapped occupant and that occupant who was treated for smoke inhalation.
