KCK Apartment Fire Kills 15-Year-Old as Investigators Probe Cause

Investigators have not determined the cause of the Sept. 25 fire.

  • The fire was brought under control in roughly an hour, and searches of neighboring apartments found no additional victims.
  • Two civilians were injured, including a resident who suffered lacerations while breaking a window to help a trapped occupant and that occupant who was treated for smoke inhalation.
  • One firefighter was hospitalized for heat exhaustion, the fire investigations unit is leading the cause probe, and the boy’s name has not been released.
