KBO Asks MLB to Post Star Slugger Roh Si-hwan

This starts a 30-day MLB negotiation window that could lead to an MLB contract triggering a tiered release fee to the Hanwha Eagles.

Overview

  • The Korea Baseball Organization formally asked Major League Baseball to post Roh Si-hwan after the Hanwha Eagles accepted his request, a step reported on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026.
  • Once MLB notifies its clubs the posting window will open at 8 a.m. Eastern Time the following day and run for 30 days during which any of the 30 teams may negotiate with Roh.
  • If Roh signs with an MLB team that club must pay the Eagles a release fee calculated as 20% of the first $25 million, 17.5% of the next $25 million, and 15% of any amount above $50 million.
  • Roh is a high-volume power hitter who has totaled 116 homers since 2023 and posted 29 homers with a .283/.360/.505 line in 2026, and he signed an 11-year, 30.7 billion won KBO deal that takes effect in 2027.
  • Roh’s agency said he applied to pursue a long-held MLB dream, and his availability could shift offseason plans for MLB clubs though his posting window could be affected if a league lockout begins after the collective bargaining agreement expires on Dec. 1.
