Kaziranga Kati Bihu Bird Count Logs 146 Species Across Five Ranges

Organisers present the citizen survey as a baseline for long-term monitoring, highlighting strong local participation.

Overview

  • The October 18 survey recorded 146 species and 1,919 individual birds across the Kaziranga landscape.
  • Coverage spanned Agoratoli, Gamiri, Panbari, Panpur and Laokhowa, with Agoratoli leading at 89 species and others at 59, 59, 55 and 37.
  • Findings included two endangered species—Swamp Grass Babbler and Pallas’s Fish Eagle—along with six vulnerable and six near threatened species.
  • Notable sightings ranged from Great Hornbill and Greater Spotted Eagle to Woolly-necked Stork, Blue-naped Pitta and Bluethroat.
  • Sixty-three participants took part, including students, researchers, birders and forest officials, with notable involvement of women forest staff.
