Kazakhstan Diverts Kashagan Oil to China, Samara and BTC After CPC Terminal Damage

The shift follows an attack that left only one CPC offshore mooring in service, keeping exports constrained.

Overview

  • KazTransOil said it agreed with partners to re-route volumes from the CPC system toward Samara and the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline, with a partial shift to China.
  • The Energy Ministry said exports have not fully stopped and loadings continue through the remaining operational infrastructure with safety measures in place.
  • Reuters reported an initial direct shipment of about 50,000 tonnes of Kashagan oil to China, including roughly 30,000 tonnes by CNPC and about 20,000 tonnes by Inpex.
  • CPC confirmed one of three offshore loading buoys was severely damaged and another is under planned maintenance, forcing reduced exports and leaving one buoy in operation.
  • Kazakhstan lodged a protest with Ukraine over the strike on CPC infrastructure, while Kyiv said its actions were not directed at Kazakhstan, with diplomatic contacts ongoing.
