Kazakhstan Approves Oil Reroute From CPC to Samara, BTC, and China After Novorossiysk Attack

Exports continue from one functioning offshore berth with Kashagan volumes being redirected to alternative pipelines.

Overview

  • KazTransOil said options have been agreed to shift export flows from the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system toward Russia’s Samara, the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline, and partially to China.
  • The Energy Ministry confirmed measures to divert a portion of Kashagan crude to China, with shipments moving via the AtasuAlashankou route.
  • Reuters previously reported an initial plan to send about 50,000 tonnes from Kashagan to China, including roughly 30,000 tonnes via CNPC and 20,000 tonnes via Inpex.
  • CPC operations remain constrained after the late-November strike near Novorossiysk, with one single-point mooring heavily damaged, one under maintenance, and loading currently taking place from one berth.
  • Kazakhstan lodged a diplomatic protest to Ukraine over the strike, while officials say contacts with Kyiv continue to address the incident.
