Katy ISD Approves Tiered Raises for Teachers and Staff

Officials expect the district’s $26 million shortfall to disappear after the audit confirms full state funding

  • Katy ISD received about $50 million from House Bill 2 and allocated $29 million of it to teacher salary increases, supplementing local operating funds.
  • First- and second-year teachers will receive a $2,500 raise funded by the district’s general operating budget.
  • Teachers with three to four years of experience will receive a $2,500 raise funded by House Bill 2; those with five or more years will receive a $5,000 increase under the same program.
  • Support staff including custodial, transportation and cafeteria workers, along with administrators, will receive a 3 percent pay increase.
  • Chief Financial Officer Chris Smith said the district is likely to spend less than budgeted and expects the $26 million deficit to be erased when the audit concludes in January.
