• The Katwijk municipal council formally nominated Nathanaël Middelkoop overnight to succeed long-serving mayor Cornelis Visser.
• Middelkoop is currently an alderman and first deputy mayor in Urk, a post he has held since 2020.
• He is number four on the SGP’s national list, yet the party stated he will not take a parliamentary seat if elected.
• The Electoral Council notes the list is fixed, so a potential fourth SGP seat would pass to number five, Wouter-Jan Vroegindeweij of Katwijk.
• Katwijk expects to swear him in on 20 November, which would make the 32-year-old the youngest mayor in the Netherlands.
