Kate Martin Signs Developmental Contract With Chicago Sky
The short-term deal gives Martin a live chance to earn a full roster spot during the four-game stretch after the FIBA World Cup break.

- Under WNBA rules, developmental players have three years of experience or less, do not count against the salary cap, and can appear in up to 12 regular-season games before a team must convert the deal to a standard contract.
- Chicago has only four regular-season games after the league returns from the FIBA World Cup on Sept. 17, which gives the Sky a very small live-game window to evaluate Martin.
- Martin was waived by the Los Angeles Sparks on Aug. 29 after spending part of 2026 with them and earlier being released by Golden State on May 7, and she averaged 2.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 17 games this season.
- The signing is a low-cost trial for a Sky team in the middle of a multi-year rebuild and leaves Martin with a short window to re-establish her WNBA status or pursue outside opportunities such as a reported multi-year Unrivaled deal.
