Kashmir Records Coldest November Since 2007 as Srinagar Hits −4.5°C

A prolonged dry spell under northwesterly flow is set to persist into early December, pushing nights lower across the Valley.

Overview

  • The IMD and regional MeT offices forecast mainly dry weather across Kashmir through about December 10 with a further fall in night temperatures possible.
  • Most Valley stations are below freezing, with Shopian and Pulwama around −6°C to −6.7°C and the Zojila Pass near −16°C, while Gulmarg and Pahalgam remain well below normal.
  • Meteorologists and officials warn that continued dryness could reduce glacier recharge, cut hydropower output, delay snow-dependent tourism and strain agriculture.
  • Beyond Kashmir, Delhi logged 8°C for its coldest November morning since 2022 as UP hovered near 10°C, with a slight additional dip expected before a gradual rebound.
  • State outlooks point to regional variability: MP temperatures fluctuate with severe cold signalled for early December, Rajasthan faces dense fog alerts with a potential cold wave next week, and West Bengal minimums are set to rise briefly before a fall next week.
