Kashmir School Timings Revised; Summer Vacations Brought Forward to July 1

Overview

  • On June 19, Srinagar recorded 35.2°C—its hottest June day in 20 years—while Qazigund reached 34.7°C, marking its warmest in 37 years, and Gulmarg stayed coolest at 25.9°C.
  • Prolonged heat has caused a sharp decline in the water level of the Jhelum River and other valley streams, exacerbating water shortages.
  • Farmers across Ganderbal, Srinagar, Budgam, Bandipora, Kupwara, Baramulla, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag are facing irrigation shortfalls that threaten paddy fields and apple orchards.
  • The Directorate of School Education in Kashmir revised timings so schools end by early afternoon and brought summer vacations forward to July 1 for both government and recognised private institutions.
  • The India Meteorological Department forecasts intermittent rain and thunderstorms on June 21–22, with isolated heavy showers that could offer relief.
