Overview

  • The ₹540-crore Cauvery drinking water project aims to supply 3.3 tmcft of water to Ramanagara, Kanakapura, Channapatna, and Magadi taluks, benefiting 10.82 lakh people and 9.03 lakh livestock.
  • As of early May 2025, 11.33 km of the 12.5-km tunnel and 5.5 km of the 13.5-km pipeline have been completed, with the project on schedule for December delivery.
  • The project infrastructure includes a 25.4-km network of tunnels and pipelines, designed to transport 220 cusecs of Cauvery water annually for 180 days.
  • Deputy CM Shivakumar emphasized fair compensation for farmers whose land is acquired, with ongoing oversight to minimize delays and ensure timely execution.
  • Promised during the Channapatna by-election, the project seeks to alleviate chronic water shortages in regions affected by erratic rainfall and depleting groundwater levels.
