Karnataka to Decide on Extending Caste Survey Deadline After Review

A Tuesday review will determine whether the Oct. 7 cutoff is pushed to complete the app-based enumeration.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said 1.10 crore households have been covered, putting completion at about 63%, with a decision on any extension due after a review on Tuesday evening.
  • Official figures released Sunday reported nearly 1.09 crore households surveyed and details of 4.10 crore people recorded, equal to 76.43% of the target.
  • Home Minister G. Parameshwara said roughly 80% of the population, about 5.6 crore people, has been counted and indicated an extension could be granted if needed.
  • Government sources say the deadline is likely to be pushed by at least ten days due to a slow pace of work, technical glitches and confusion in the field.
  • Villagers in parts of Shivamogga boycotted the exercise over poor mobile connectivity, as the High Court’s directions requiring voluntary participation and strict data privacy remain in force while BJP leaders urge non-cooperation.
