Karnataka Sugar Factory Boiler Blast Kills 3, Injures Several in Belagavi

Authorities are probing potential safety failures after hot slurry from a ruptured unit scalded workers during maintenance.

  • Police said the explosion occurred around 2 pm at the Inamdar Sugar Factory in Marakumbi village during repair work on the No. 1 boiler compartment.
  • Belagavi Rural SP K. Ramarajan reported eight workers were critically injured and confirmed that three later died of their burns.

  • Injured workers were taken to hospitals in Bailhongal and Belagavi, with several treated at KLE Hospital and some moved under zero-traffic arrangements.
