Karnataka Social and Educational Survey Accelerates After CM Order as Absentees Are Suspended

Stricter oversight following a 10% daily target order drove a sharp rise in coverage.

Overview

  • Officials reported 12.8 lakh households surveyed by 5:30 p.m. on September 27 since the September 22 launch, including 8.18 lakh that day, with commission sources later putting Saturday’s final count at 9.64 lakh.
  • Four personnel were suspended for failing to conduct assigned blocks—three in Davanagere and one in Raichur—after the Chief Minister’s review and enforcement push.
  • The state set a daily target of 11.85 lakh for 1.18 lakh enumerators to cover an estimated 1.43 crore households divided into about 1.22 lakh blocks.
  • Most early glitches were resolved and a sixth version of the survey app, along with UHID-based household lists, helped districts extend field hours and quicken enumeration.
  • Districts tightened supervision: Ballari barred leave and ordered company townships to allow entry, Mysuru conducted spot checks, Mandya warned absentees of suspension, and special camps were planned in network blackspots.
