Karnataka reinstates suspended police officers B Dayananda, Vikash Kumar, Shekar HT and two others after stampede probe findings.

Overview

  • On July 28, the Karnataka government withdrew suspension orders for four officers — B Dayananda, Shekar H. Tekkannavar, C. Balakrishna and A. K. Girish — who had been disciplined for crowd-control lapses during the June 4 stampede.
  • IPS officer Vikash Kumar remains under suspension while the Karnataka High Court reviews the state’s appeal of a tribunal order for his reinstatement.
  • Both the one-man Judicial Commission chaired by Justice D’Cunha and the magisterial committee under Jagadish G. submitted reports in early July attributing gross negligence to the police, RCB, KSCA and DNA Entertainment.
  • The government will proceed with departmental inquiries under All India Services and Karnataka State Police rules and may initiate criminal proceedings based on the inquiry findings.
  • Home Minister G. Parameshwara said reinstated officers would return at equivalent ranks rather than to their former posts pending the outcome of ongoing probes.
