- The Higher Education Department and KEA published a draft seat matrix for 2026–27 that lists 1,59,151 seats across 227 colleges and opens a formal objections window until June 9.
- The matrix assigns 75,041 seats to the government (KEA) quota, 32,769 to COMED‑K and 51,294 to management quotas and sets different fill ratios for government, aided and unaided colleges.
- KEA excluded some recently approved seat increases from the draft pending National Board of Accreditation (NBA) certificates and capped new college intake at 60 seats to curb unchecked expansion.
- Courses with approved intakes above 180 and Computer Science‑related streams above 900 were not included in the published totals and will be added only after institutions submit NBA accreditation.
- The draft shows controlled KEA intakes of 6,900 seats plus 345 supernumerary seats for government/VTU colleges and 2,803 KEA plus 147 supernumerary seats for aided colleges, and the final matrix will follow objection review and KCET results.
