Overview

  • Authorities said the collision occurred around 2 a.m. near Gorlathu/Javanagondanahalli on NH-48 as a Seabird sleeper coach traveled from Bengaluru toward Gokarna.
  • The confirmed toll stands at six, including a five-year-old girl and the truck driver, with victims identified as Bindu V, her daughter Grema, Manasa, Navya, and Rashmi Mahale.
  • Police and hospital officials reported dozens injured, with patients treated in Sira, Hiriyur, Tumakuru and Bengaluru, including burn care at Victoria Hospital where one patient is critical.
  • Investigators said the container truck jumped the central divider and struck the bus near its diesel tank, igniting a rapid blaze; a case is registered at Hiriyur Rural Police Station and DNA testing is planned for identification.
  • Ex-gratia was announced by the Prime Minister (₹2 lakh for the deceased, ₹50,000 for the injured) and the Karnataka Chief Minister (₹5 lakh and ₹50,000), as eyewitness accounts credit a nearby school bus driver with rescuing passengers; all schoolchildren were unharmed.
